Listen Love Lead: The Philosophy

Picture
Core Concepts:
Leadership is not about what you do, but about who you are.

Leadership is an expression of identity, not a source of identity

Leadership does not seek to acquire power, but to empower others.

Leadership does not require recognition, only opportunity.

Leadership is not about job security for yourself, but for others.

Leadership requires courage to take personal risks for the benefit of others.

Leadership is all about becoming the kind of person that others want to follow.

Leadership is the ability and the willingness to become a bridge enabling others to get places they could not reach on their own.

Listen - Leadership through relationship begins with a process of listening - of asking questions to understand the interests of other individuals. It is impossible to love what you don’t know.

Love - It is an art and a science to care passionately for the needs an interests of others, but if you can do so, you will earn the most valuable asset of all: trust! The challenge of this second step is primarily internal: developing a sense of self-worth that is not based on appearance or performance, but rather on an unchanging value that expresses itself in these things. Actions governed by identity rather than a need for approval position the individual and organization to add value to those around them in a way that fosters a leadership relationship.

Lead - By following these two simple steps, any individual or institution can position themselves to use their abilities to support and empower others This is leadership through relationship.

Why It Works
Stephen Covey once lamented that leadership training focuses so strongly on doing the right thing or following a proper technique. The real secret, he believed, lies in becoming the kind of person who does the right thing.

"Another study released by the US Department of Labor concluded that 46 percent of those who quit their jobs did so because they felt not listened to and were therefore unappreciated. Consider this: almost half the workforce will leave their job because they didn’t feel like their boss was listening"   -Eric Barker

Listen Love Lead: The History

Picture
Listen Love Lead as a concept was born over a conversation between Janna Isings, Shamus Strapp, and Kevin Jenson at Cedaville University in 2011. It was initially designed as a business process that could be applied by entrepreneurs in developing countries. Although the initial vision was never fully developed it became the starting point for a new kind of approach to transformational leadership in business, education, and the non-profit world.

In 2012 Listen Love Lead Companies took on several projects including local marketing services for social entrepreneurs located abroad and the exploration of technology similar to instapaper that would provide a clean web browsing experience.

2013 saw the move into publishing, event services, and web design with Charles Heyworth (Matchbook Publications) and The Bonfire!
2014 began strategic marketing and business development consulting services for various start-ups, small business, and non-profits including Snow by CALM.
2015 began to build on the August Collegium concept to design a new theory of education called "Human-Centered Learning"

Current  projects include publishing two more books for Charles Heyworth, social media promotion and web design for various clients, and ongoing development of a technology algorithm with applications in commercial and educational enterprise.
